I’ve been color grading a promotional video for a school’s Europe study program. From the beginning, I knew one of the ways I wanted to tie together all of the distinctly different locations was with a common color grade. I’m starting to realize this is easier said than done. The incredible variety of light and shadow, rain and shine, city and country, and all the other variables means each clip provides a new set of challenges for getting the grade just right. It’s challenging, but it’s forcing me to grow as a colorist and learn more as a cinematographer for next time.
